Today marks a very sad day for the cricket world. A Worcestershire County Cricket Club talented young spin bowler has passed away suddenly, Josh Baker. Josh was only 20 years old and was known as an impressive bowler with the left arm. He was also a great member of his team. Originally from Redditch, Josh seemed to have the potential for professional cricket, as I made my debut in 2021 and rapidly became known for my skill. He was only 20 years old, but he already played 47 matches through all formats –T20, one-day lame, and first-class, taking 70 wickets in total.
Ashley Giles, a chief executive from Worcestershire, expressed deep sorrow about the death of his team member. He stated how tragic and painful losing their member is, and that he will be greatly missed by the team. The cause of Josh’s death has not been disclosed, leaving the cricket world in great sorrow and confusion. Josh has recently played for the Worcestershire Second XI team against Somerset, performing incredibly and showing his power of will by taking three wickets despite the poor weather. Being able to recover from a back injury and return to play so brilliantly showed his absolute dedication and love for cricket. He had received condolences from famous players, other clubs, and significant organizations, including primacy from the Professional Cricketers Association, and even a Pakistani player, Usama Mir, has shared his sadness about Josh.

When the game was over on Wednesday he took 3 wickets at the end of the session. Everyone went to their homes or flats. He did not arrive on time when the session was scheduled to begin on Thursday morning. A friend was sent to his flat to find out why Josh had not turned up. When his friend arrived, he found Josh’s dead body. BBC also reported this sad news.
